“I just feel the love. I never had anyone love me like this before.”

These were the words of “Jesse”, one of the men I am mentoring and discipling at Open Door Mission.

Scripture has the following to say about love…

“We love because He first loved us”
– 1 John 4:19

“There is no fear in love. Perfect love casts out fear.”
– 1 John 4:18

“And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”
– 1 Corinthians 13:13

The extent to which we help men connect to love, is the extent to which we help change their lives. We all have fears and fears are what drive us to create walls, or put on “masks”. The only problem is, you can’t have a relationship with a mask, and if you wear a mask only the mask gets loved.

Broken homes are still far too common in our culture. The vast majority of teenage pregnancies, high school dropouts and youth suicides happen in the context of fatherless homes. Women account for 82% of all single parent homes and thus, not surprisingly, are twice as likely as men to suffer depression. 

As we reach men, we also reach their families. Our heart in launching Legacy Builders is to help create safe places where men can “unmask” and be loved like never before. As Jesse put it, “I never had anyone love me like this before.”
